Overview
Global Investigations Review quoted Wendy Wysong in a January 28 article titled "Companies Grapple with Chinese Media Backlash Over US Sanctions Compliance." The article discusses the criticism multinational companies are receiving for complying with US sanctions on China.
Lawyers told the outlet that multinational companies may face a catch-22 when trying to comply with both US and Chinese expectations. "Particularly for a US company that’s operating in China, how it could comply with both, that's a big question," says Wysong. Wysong added that she’s advising clients to find a way to comply with both jurisdictions or provide an explanation that would satisfy both sides as to why they're complying with one law and not the other. She added that "Ultimately, it’s up to companies to make a judgment on where the biggest risks are and determine which government is likely to impose tougher penalties for defying their laws."
