The International Business Times quoted Alan Cohn in a September 27 article titled “ICO Evolution: What is the Future of Initial Coin Offerings?” The article discusses how initial coin offerings (ICOs), also known as fundraising with cryptocurrency instead of relying only on venture capitalists and traditional sources, quickly went from a niche business model to a widespread tech industry trend over the past few months.
Mr. Cohn, co-chair of Steptoe’s blockchain and digital currency practice, says: "Hopefully, whether it's the federal government or the government at the state level, they will take time to coordinate the activities of the regulators and to synthesize the regulatory approach to cryptocurrency and tokens. To basically harmonize the situation we have now, where a cryptocurrency or token can be simultaneously considered a currency, a commodity, and property, plus possibly a security, all at the same time."
