IRS Selects Contractors to Begin Private Debt Collection: The IRS announced today that it plans to begin private collection of certain overdue federal tax debts next spring. Four contractors were selected to implement the new program: CBE Group, Conserve, Performant, and Pioneer. The contractors will work on accounts where taxpayers owe money, but the IRS is no longer actively working their accounts. The new program was authorized by Congress in December 2015 in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act.
