Overview
(October 24, 2017, New York) — Steptoe’s Jasmine Campirides has received the City Bar Justice Center’s 2017 Jeremy G. Epstein Awards for Pro Bono Service. The City Bar Justice Center, the pro bono affiliate of the New York City Bar Association, honored the most outstanding volunteer lawyer in each of the Justice Center’s projects at a reception on October 23. The event was covered by The New York Law Journal.
Ms. Campirides was nominated by the director of the Elderlaw Project and was selected as the most outstanding volunteer for that project based on criteria that include the quality and volume of legal work, leadership in support of pro bono, demonstrated commitment to the Elderlaw Project and clients, and willingness to take on challenging assignments. The Elderlaw Project of the City Bar Justice Center provides low-income seniors with free legal services for life planning, specifically with simple wills, healthcare proxies and living wills, powers of attorney, and appointment of agent to control disposition of remains.
Jeremy G. Epstein, who passed away in May 2009, was a partner at Shearman & Sterling LLP and a board member at the City Bar Justice Center, The Legal Aid Society and the Fund for Modern Courts. He logged more than 5,000 hours of pro bono and public service over 20 years.
At Steptoe, Ms. Campirides focuses her practice on all areas of trusts and estates law, including personal and tax-driven estate planning, probate and complex estate and trust administration. She frequently writes and speaks on issues related to trusts and estates law, tax and estate planning, and charitable organizations.
