Overview
Steptoe’s win for electric utility company Southern California Edison (SCE) in a class action dispute was covered by Law360 in an article titled “Appeals Court Pulls Plug on SoCal Edison Rate Gaming Suit.” The article discusses a January 25 decision from a California appeals court dismissing a SCE customer’s class action suit alleging the company lied about enrollment in its low-income subsidy program, ruling the suit would impinge on state regulator’s territory.
A three-judge panel affirmed a trial court's dismissal of the putative class action alleging SCE is overcharging customers by having them subsidize low rates for ineligible participants in the California Alternate Rates for Energy discount program.
The Steptoe team was led by Palo Alto-based partner Laurie Edelstein with associate Seth Sias.
