Overview
(November 1, 2024, Washington, DC) – Steptoe partner Pantelis Michalopoulos was recognized as one of three MVPs nationwide by Law360 in the Telecommunications category. This prestigious award honors attorneys who have distinguished themselves from their peers over the past year through high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals, and complex global matters. A team of Law360 editors selected the MVP winners after reviewing nearly 900 submissions.
Pantelis has continued his decades-long streak of important representations and victories that have helped shape the telecom and internet space. These wins have ranged: from helping streaming companies defeat the effort of a number of cities to tax them; to upholding net neutrality (a key principle protecting the entire Internet ecosystem from the power of gatekeepers) with full or partial victories in the three court of appeals cases that have passed on the issue so far; to setting aside the “broadcast flag” rule, in a 2005 court victory that made Internet streaming possible. The Law360 article recognizing Pantelis likewise ranges over decades of Pantelis’s practice, from the recent Seventh Circuit case resulting in a win on the merits of the cities’ streaming tax attempts, to the roots of his legal practice in the History of Thucydides.
