Law360 quoted Lisa Zarlenga in an article titled “Rushed Tax Bill May Mean Déjà Vu of Health Care Debacle.” The article, published March 27, discusses why the White House and the GOP are under significant political pressure to ensure their tax reform efforts don’t suffer the same fate as the American Health Care Act (AHCA).
Ms. Zarlenga, who co-chairs Steptoe’s Tax Group, says what may ultimately end up derailing the Republican leadership’s tax reform efforts would be a repeat of the failure to collaborate with Democrats and other Republicans, as was seen with the AHCA bill. “A lot of [members of Congress] were concerned that they hadn’t really had a chance to participate. It does seem to me that [the GOP] could learn a lesson from this to be more inclusive the next time around. They would get more support that way.”
