On October 30, 2023, Legaltech News quoted Don Sternfeld in an article titled "For Law Firms, Will Generative AI Really Be a Major Competitive Differentiator?" The article discusses that although law firms will likely all be relying on a small pool of similar generative AI tools, it doesn’t mean there will be a leveled playing field.
Sternfeld argues that how law firms apply the use of new technologies will be the differentiator for them, "We all use Westlaw, we all rely on Thomson Reuters. We all use LexisNexis. Most of us use Relativity." What has historically been a differentiator is how firms have used commonly available resources to deliver services to their clients in new, innovative ways. For some firms, that has meant building unique, client-facing applications.
