Steptoe New York partner Vishal Gupta was quoted in a Legaltech News article titled “World Intellectual Property Day Observed Today, Experts Weigh in on Tech IP Future.” The article, published on April 26, discusses the significance and future of tech IP. World Intellectual Property Day was created in 2000 by the World Intellectual Property Organization and is celebrated annually.
Mr. Gupta says: “Intellectual property has molded our past and is crucial in developing our future. World IP Day raises awareness of intellectual property and its benefits (such as protecting and incentivizing innovators). For example, in the technology space, properly obtained patents have the potential to generate large revenue streams for corporations, educational institutions and even public organizations through product sales and licensing. This potential value encourages research and development in all technology areas – this encouragement is what may help get us our latest superphone or disease cure.”
