LegalTech News spoke with Steptoe partner Michel Paradis in an article titled "Columbia Law School Gets Technical With New AI Course Led by Steptoe Partner," which covers how Columbia Law School has launched a new "Law of Artificial Intelligence" course led by Michel to equip future lawyers with a deeper technical understanding of how AI systems work and how they are regulated and litigated.
Commenting on how AI will reshape the practice of law, Michel said "A lot of the time AI is presented as a tool that lawyers use for efficiency, [but] there are a lot of capabilities that AI tools enable you to have as a lawyer that, honestly, you just couldn't have done otherwise." He adds that lawyers may even "have a duty of care to use large language models to ensure that they're making coherent arguments … that they're not going to be immediately devastated by their opposing counsel."
