Overview
Simon Hirsbrunner co-authored an article with Stephan Breitenmoser, a professor and federal administrative judge in Switzerland. The March 29 article titled "Major Scope of the State Aid Framework Agreement" was published in the Swiss German-language newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung. The article comments on a proposed institutional framework agreement between the EU and Switzerland and how the state aid control provisions are likely to meet political resistance in Switzerland. In particular, because the provisions restrict Switzerland's sovereignty in the area of corporate taxation. The authors argue that Switzerland should agree with the EU on joint interpretative declarations to limit the scope of the state aid provisions, as well as reflect on the potential development of a Swiss framework for the control of state aid.
