Overview
(March 4, 2021, Washington, DC) — Steptoe partner Sarah Gordon has been named to The National Law Journal's 2021 list of Trailblazers in Insurance Law. The list is featured in a supplement in the March issue of the legal publication.
Gordon maintains a multifaceted litigation practice that encompasses insurance and reinsurance, commercial litigation, and professional liability. In early 2020, she was selected to serve as the Hartford's national coordinating counsel for COVID-19 matters. Gordon has been defending Hartford in more than 230 suits in numerous jurisdictions and managing an expansive, multi-office Steptoe team. She has already scored more than 30 wins for Hartford in business interruption cases.
Gordon was one of only two insurer representatives who argued to the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation against the efforts of certain policyholders to establish an MDL for all COVID-19 cases. She successfully defeated centralization at the industry-wide level. Gordon then defeated a second request to consolidate all of the Hartford cases in an MDL solely for Hartford.
Gordon had an early win on behalf of Hartford when she successfully defeated the request for preliminary injunction by Social Life magazine. The victory was one of the first (if not the first) decisions with respect to coverage under property policies for the hundreds of business interruption claims pending nationwide with respect to COVID-19.
