Overview
(June 25, 2018, New York) — Steptoe partner Vishal Gupta has been named to the New York Law Journal's 2018 "Rising Stars" list. The award recognizes the region's most promising lawyers who are no older than 40 years of age. The winners will be recognized in the New York Law Journal's Professional Excellence magazine and honored at the New York Legal Awards on October 10.
At Steptoe, Gupta is a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Group and focuses his practice on complex life science patent litigation, strategic counseling and transactions. He has litigated significant cases related to blockbuster pharmaceuticals and biologics through all phases including numerous summary judgment motions, claim construction (Markman) proceedings, injunctions, trials, damages, and Federal Circuit appeals. Gupta also has extensive experience in strategic counseling, due diligence, licensing, technology transactions and settlements in a variety of technologies.
His most significant recent representations include representing international companies in high stakes technologies related to anti-cholesterol antibodies, anti-cancer pharmaceuticals, antibiotics and medical imaging devices.
In 2014, Gupta became one of the youngest partners ever elected at Steptoe. He has been recognized by the IAM Patent 1000, in which the editors described him as a practitioner who provides "unparalleled" service with subject matter knowledge "orders of magnitude greater than those of many others."
Prior to practicing law, Gupta obtained a masters in biomedical/chemical engineering and also formulated pharmaceuticals and conducted research in the field of cardiac transplantation at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Gupta frequently speaks and publishes on a variety of intellectual property issues. He also serves as faculty for the New York State Bar Association’s advanced trial advocacy program.
