Overview
On September 12, 2022, New York Law Journal spoke with Julia Gatto for their piece titled "Steptoe Lures Longtime Federal Defender From SDNY." The piece discusses Gatto’s career as a federal defender in New York, her move to Steptoe, and future plans for her work at the firm. During her tenure as a federal defender, Gatto won acquittals in half of the cases that she tried to verdict. At Steptoe, she plans to continue defending clients facing government investigations in both federal and state courts. In addition to counseling companies through internal investigations, Securities and Exchange Commission investigations, and other matters.
On joining Steptoe, Gatto said, "It's really one of the best white-collar practices in the country. I'm joining a team of real superstar litigators who are aggressive and effective in court, and thoughtful and strategic in their client counseling."
New York Law Journal also spoke with chair, Gwen Renigar about the move. She said in regards to Gatto, "Her tenure at the Federal Defender's office, thoughtful client counsel and effective courtroom advocacy are significant assets… [she] has proven herself to be a 'standout' trial lawyer."
