Overview
Simon Hirsbrunner authored an article in a special COVID-19 related edition of the Swiss, German, and French language journal the Swiss Law Review (Zeitschrift fuer Schweizerisches Recht/Revue de droit suisse). The May 2020 article compares the European Commission and the Swiss Competition Commission's use of antitrust and state aid rules since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis. Moreover, Simon voices concerns about the long-term effects of the crisis on competition policy, the competition authorities and their understanding of their roles. He predicts a stronger emphasis on industrial policy aspects in EU competition law after the pandemic, with negative consequences, which will also be felt in Switzerland.
