(December 16, 2020, Washington, DC) — Steptoe & Johnson LLP is pleased to announce that Jessica Cooper has joined the firm's Chemical & Life Sciences practice as a chemistry specialist. She will reside in the firm's Washington office.
Cooper joins Steptoe from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where she was a review chemist for six years before becoming a master reviewer in 2017, as well as the FDA's lead chemist from 2019 onward. As the lead chemist and master reviewer, Cooper provided leadership and strategic direction, and ensured consistency of regulatory policy regarding food additives and food contact substances in FDA's Office of Food Additive Safety (OFAS). She also has deep knowledge regarding perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and nanomaterials used in food packaging, and has extensive experience conducting dietary exposure assessments.
Cooper earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University. She received her B.S. in chemistry with a minor in mathematics and biology from the University of Pittsburgh.
