Overview
(April 17, 2024, Washington, DC) – Steptoe LLP has received the Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA). Honorees are recognized for their efforts to address issues related to civil & human rights. The NLADA is America's oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel. The Beacon of Justice awardees will be celebrated at the 2024 NLADA Exemplar Awards Gala on June 6.
The 2024 Beacon of Justice honorees have demonstrated an understanding of the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, gender, religion, sexual orientation and other characteristics that may create interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage. Honorees, Steptoe included, have worked to address these complex challenges in their pro bono practice.
NLADA President & CEO April Frazier Camara said: "Recognizing the outstanding efforts of these law firms is a true joy for us. Collectively, they have been champions for civil and human rights on a global scale. When businesses speak up, the world pays attention. And when they act, the world follows suit."
