Overview
(October 7, 2022, Washington, DC) – The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit affirmed a judgment entered in favor of our client, AIG, in a long-running coverage dispute. The policyholder, a DC-area socialite, alleged that about $4 million in household goods were lost or stolen when they were moved from her home in Middleburg, VA to her DC home in Georgetown. Steptoe prevailed in the district court on statute-of-limitations grounds, and the policyholder missed her deadline to appeal by two weeks. Our team convinced the district court not to grant an extension on the deadline to appeal, and then convinced the Fourth Circuit to affirm the district court's order.
Partners Roger Warin and John O'Connor represented AIG in the district court and on appeal.
