Steptoe international arbitration partner Teddy Baldwin was cited throughout an April 9 article titled "What Should Lawyers Look for in Litigation Financing?" The article covers an April 4 panel discussion at the Litigation Funding Forum that discussed several factors to consider when seeking litigation funding for clients.
Baldwin, who spoke on the panel, identified two key factors: speed and flexibility in deal structure. In terms of speed, Baldwin explained that by the time a client has decided to pursue a case, they want to get underway as soon as possible (or, if the case is already underway, they need funding to continue the case). As for flexibility, he said there are many ways to structure a deal. For example, the funder's desired return could be expressed as a multiple of the investment, a percentage, or a specific dollar amount.
