Wendy Wysong, who serves as managing partner of Steptoe's Hong Kong office, was quoted by The Wall Street Journal in an article titled "China Votes to Override Hong Kong's Autonomy on National Security." The article, published May 28, discusses a vote by China's legislature approving a resolution to impose national security laws on Hong Kong. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the action means the US can no longer consider Hong Kong as significantly autonomous from China.
"Everybody is on high alert," Wysong says, and adds that companies will now have to consider the potential implications of a new policy direction out of Washington.
