Overview
The National Law Journal covered the relaunch of Steptoe's LGBTQ affinity group, Pride Alliance, in a December 8 article titled “How One Firm Is Confronting Its LGBT Diversity Deficit.” The Pride Alliance officially revived after a hiatus on November 29 with a cocktail party for about 60 lawyers and staff in the Washington office. The group will offer support and a forum for discussion of issues relevant to the LGBTQ community at Steptoe and is part of the firm’s ongoing effort to foster a diverse and welcoming workplace.
Steptoe Chair Phil West tells The National Law Journal: "This initiative is going to be one of a number of building blocks making Steptoe a destination firm for diverse lawyers. We want the legal community to know that LGBTQ lawyers and staff are welcome at Steptoe, a place where they can thrive."
"The more you can be your true self or reveal your true self, the better your job will be,” says Markham Erickson, a communications partner and the firm’s chief diversity partner. “I wanted to make sure there's no impediment for people to self-identify and be their true selves."
