The UK Government has today published its eagerly-awaited consultation on a proposal to substantively amend UK REACH, and thus accelerate divergence with the legal framework for chemicals management in the EU.
The consultation, which runs until July 11 2024, seeks input from all stakeholders on DEFRA’s ‘Alternative Transitional Registration model’ (ATRm) proposal. If adopted, the proposal will make important changes to the UK REACH registration requirements and obligations for those placing products on the market in Great Britain. The proposed changes include: reducing to a minimum the ‘hazard’ information required for registrations (with associated changes to Chemical Safety Reports); refining ‘use and exposure’ information requirements; and increasing regulator powers to request data on specific chemicals of concern.
Join members of Steptoe's chemical and environment regulatory practice on Thursday, May 30 for a complimentary webinar on the ATRm consultation, as part of our UK REACH webinar series. During the webinar, we will discuss the key aspects of the proposal and provide some practical tips on how best to ensure that your views are heard during the process. Nishma Patel, Policy Director at the Chemical Industry Association, will provide keynote remarks.
