Overview
David Caianiello prepares and prosecutes patent applications in the fields of chemistry and the life sciences. He works across a broad range of subject areas including gene editing, cancer immunotherapy, RNA interference, and protein half-life modulation. In addition, he performs analyses relating to patentability and freedom-to-operate, as well as patent strategy and IP due diligence matters.
David holds an Sc.B. in chemistry and a Ph.D. in chemical biology. During his graduate career, he developed molecules that induce the degradation of circulating proteins, including cytokines and antibodies. Notably, his graduate work was the first demonstration that the rapidly growing field of small molecule-mediated targeted protein degradation can be expanded to include extracellular proteins. David's academic research spanned the areas of chemistry and chemical biology, including extensive work in the fields of RNA modifications, drug discovery, organic synthesis, and small molecule characterization. His work is the subject of several patent applications, and has been published in Nature Chemical Biology and The Journal of Organic Chemistry.
