Overview
Lee Covington is a policy advisor affiliated with the Government Affairs & Public Policy Group, where he provides strategic guidance and government relations support to help clients navigate congressional and regulatory processes across the financial services, insurance, securities, capital markets, and retirement savings industries.
With more than 30 years of federal and state government relations and regulatory experience, Lee has advised Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations, and advocacy coalitions on matters including Tax Cuts and Jobs Act reauthorization, the SECURE Act, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, the SAFE(R) Banking Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), SEC and DOL rulemakings, and major cybersecurity initiatives.
Lee has held several senior leadership roles, including serving as president and CEO of the Reinsurance Association of America and The Surety & Fidelity Association of America, and as head of Government Affairs and general counsel for the Insured Retirement Institute, representing the life insurance, securities, and asset management industries. He is recognized for building strategic partnerships across industries and political spectrums.
Lee brings senior government experience, notably as director of the Ohio Department of Insurance, where he served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. His career in insurance law and public policy began in Arkansas, where he worked as an Insurance and Commerce legislative aide to Governor Mike Huckabee, before advancing to deputy director of the Arkansas Insurance Department.
