(March 2, 2026, Washington, DC) – Steptoe announced that Lee Covington, a seasoned government relations and regulatory strategist with more than 30 years of experience across the financial services and insurance sectors, has become a Policy Advisor affiliated with the firm’s Government Affairs & Public Policy group.
Lee provides strategic guidance and government relations support to clients navigating congressional and regulatory processes across the financial services, insurance, securities, capital markets, and retirement savings industries. He brings extensive experience advising Fortune 500 companies, national trade associations, and advocacy coalitions on key industry priorities including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act reauthorization, the SECURE Act, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the SAFE(R) Banking Act, SEC and DOL rulemakings, and major cybersecurity initiatives.
His background includes senior leadership positions as president and CEO of two national financial and insurance associations, as well as service as director of the Ohio Department of Insurance. Earlier in his career, Lee held key government roles at the state level, building a reputation for strengthening strategic partnerships and executing multi-layered advocacy strategies.
Lee began his career in insurance law and public policy in Arkansas, where he worked as an insurance and commerce legislative aide to Governor Mike Huckabee before serving as deputy commissioner of the Arkansas Insurance Department.
