Overview
On November 10, 2022, Bloomberg Law quoted Hunter Johnston in a piece titled, "Biden Climate Rules Move Ahead Amid Wait for Final Carbon Metric." The article discusses the Biden administrations delay in establishing permanent numbers on regulations for climate change, with criticism coming from both sides of the aisle.
The use of estimates to measure the costs of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses was first put in place by the Obama Administration, and then revived by President Joe Biden. The GOP has had huge opposition with the estimates, claiming that they have yet to see the environmental impacts from the metric estimates. On the other hand, industry groups have voiced the weakness in the current metric, and that the current regulations and research underestimate the harm that our atmosphere is currently facing.
Speaking on the delay, Johnston said, "These things have to be carefully done, or else they’re easily reversed, … You have to go through a very disciplined process because you want it to be scientifically and economically justified."
