Overview
On July 25, 2024, Global Arbitration Review (GAR) featured the Steptoe team representing clients Kurt Lennart Hansson and Martje Bolt Hansson in article titled, "Gambia seeks annulment of Tiger-prawn award." The article discusses a matter that arose out of the direct expropriation of our client's substantial aquaculture facility by Gambian government forces (West African Aquaculture Ltd, Kurt Lennart Hansson and Martje Bolt Hansson v. Republic of The Gambia (ICSID Case No. ARB/18/10)). Our client spent 15 years building their business, only to see it seized by the government without compensation. They spent several years seeking appropriate compensation from the government, before instructing our team to launch an International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) claim. The Gambia has seeks to annul an ICSID award that ordered the state to pay damages to our clients.
The Steptoe team representing the Hanssons includes partners Christophe Bondy and Tom Innes and associates Emmanuel Giakoumakis, Alexandre Genest, Lindsey Dimond, and Chloe Baldwin.
