Overview
Global Investigations Review quoted Alex Melia in an article titled, "UK's New Foreign Influence Register Lacks Clear Enforcement Plan." The article discusses how the UK's newly introduced foreign influence register lacks a clear enforcement strategy, raising concerns about its effectiveness and practical implementation.
Speaking on enforcement of the foreign influence register Melia says, "whether enforcement becomes a more significant feature of FIRS following an initial bedding-in period remains to be seen. They [OFSI] have been gathering intelligence provided through mandatory reporting mechanisms, and that's allowed them to identify patterns or types of activity that they want to get more information about. Having identified these reports as a good source for leads, the legislative framework for mandatory reporting continues to expand to new sectors."
