Overview
Steptoe's Chicago office was featured in a Law360 article titled "Chicago Brick & Mortar: Making Footprints Smaller." The article, published on March 11, is based on data collected by Law360 of law firm office space in the Windy City. The survey found that the top firms are moving to smaller offices and seeking greater efficiency with less space per square lawyer.
The survey found that Steptoe is among the firms that has achieved more efficiency over the past two years:
"While firm stayed put in the same 34,000-square-foot office over the past two years, Steptoe has reduced its square footage per lawyer by making additional hires. Two years ago, the figure was 1,030, but as of Jan. 1, 2019, the figure was 944.
Among the lawyers to recently join the firm are energy group partner Mark Johnson and Will Turner, who works in the firm's corporate group as well as its blockchain and cryptocurrency practice.
While Steptoe didn't change its total square footage over the period, partner and co-chair of Steptoe's intellectual property group Jay Nuttall told Law360 the firm is planning to move to a new space later this year, and is targeting square footage per lawyer in the range of 650 to 700 square feet."
