Philip Woolfson and Alexander Hamels co-authored an article titled “Legal Focus: Belgium Proposes Post-Brexit Bill to Woo UK MGAs” for Insurance Day. The February 13 article describes a Bill drawn up by the Belgian government to enable certain insurance intermediaries (“managing general agents” – MGAs – with traditional links to Lloyd’s) to carry on their underwriting activities in the event of a no-deal Brexit. The Bill proposes a new MGA register to be set up in Belgium – where Lloyd’s has also set up its post-Brexit operations – and to allow MGAs access to the post-Brexit EU market.
