Steptoe partner Marc Spitzer authored "Need for Speed: Need for Speed: The Regulatory Detour Slowing Grid Expansion" featured in The Washington Examiner. In this piece, Marc argues that aspects of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Order 1000 should be revised to accelerate transmission development, noting that he originally supported the rule to speed delivery of low-cost renewable energy.
He compares the United States' rapid creation of the Southwest Power Pool to deliver electricity for aluminum production for critical aircraft in World War II, to today's surging electricity demand as the two situations present similar challenges and require faster transmission development.
