Overview
Platts quoted Marc Spitzer throughout an April 13 article titled “US FERC Likely Spared Any Serious Staff Cuts in Government Reorganization.” The article discusses an overhaul of the federal government that is expected to include significant personnel cuts to align agencies with the president's proposed "skinny budget." However, the overhaul is not expected to hit the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) particularly hard.
Mr. Spitzer, who is a former FERC commissioner, says he did not sense that there was political concern over FERC's mission coming from the White House or Congress. "If anything, I think there's sympathy" toward the commission's mission of making sure the lights stay on. "Whenever I went to Capitol Hill to testify [as a FERC commissioner], I sensed that there was sympathy from both sides of the aisle for what we were trying to achieve."
