Overview
(August 1, 2022, Washington, DC) — Steptoe & Johnson LLP is pleased to announce that Tyler Evans has joined the firm’s Government Contracts practice as a partner in the Washington, DC office. Evans arrives on the heels of another recent hire, partner Amba Datta, who joined the Government Contracts Group in May 2022.
For more than a decade Evans has worked to resolve complex government contracting issues on behalf of clients. His practice—which focuses primarily on the life sciences and defense sectors—spans matters involving research and development, non-traditional contracting, intellectual property, contract negotiations, flow-down requirements, small business issues, sourcing restrictions, costs, and compliance.
Evans also brings to Steptoe experience working on transaction issues related to negotiating and structuring government contracts. He has helped clients navigate multiple forms of agreements, from procurement contracts and grants to cooperative research and development, as well as other transaction authority, licensing, and clinical trial agreements.
Steptoe Chair Gwen Renigar commented: "As our clients' government contracts law needs expand, so does our talent. Their future is bright. With Amba and now Tyler, we are delighted to be able to continue to grow the practice this summer. Tyler will broaden our ability to advise clients across all industries, but particularly in life sciences and defense areas. We're lucky to have him on board."
Last year, Evans was named a Rising Star by Law360 and recognized as one of the top life sciences attorneys under 40 for his work counseling healthcare companies on government contracts. Most notably he assisted major companies with over $13 billion worth COVID-19 related contact awards.
Evans said: "Steptoe works with high-profile clients on some of the most important federal contracts in the country. I look forward to advancing my practice and serving these clients alongside the firm’s talented group of lawyers."
"In addition to his traditional government contracting work, Tyler has cultivated a deep understanding of data and patent rights allocation for government-funded intellectual property—a key area of government contracting, especially for commercial companies seeking to benefit from significant federal funding for the development of new and critical technologies," said Paul Hurst, Steptoe partner and head of the Government Contracts practice. "As this new area grows, so too will the need for attorneys like Tyler, who know how to navigate complex government agreements involving innovative, rapidly evolving technologies."
Steptoe's Government Contracts practice represents clients in bid protests, contract claims, investigations, and claims under the False Claims Act. In June, in recognition of its growing capabilities, the practice was ranked in Chambers USA under Government Contracts: Highly Regarded. The group has worked with industry leaders in the traditional aerospace and defense sectors, as well as those offering a broad array of products and services to the government, including healthcare, professional services, information technology, construction, telecommunications, engineering and project management, and other commercial products and services.
Evans earned his J.D., with highest honors, from The George Washington University Law School, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Duke University.
