Overview
On May 23, 2024, The Baltimore Sun quoted Steptoe senior counsel, Steve Levin, in an article titled "The two Marilyn Mosbys: As Sentencing Looms, Controversial Ex-prosecutor Still Inspires Clashing Views."
While recognizing that the defense can make a strong case at sentencing that Mosby's crimes were victimless, Steve noted that "prosecutors are likely to argue that the judge should make an example of Mosby to deter other public officials and emphasize that no one is above the law. The claims Mosby is making during her pardon campaign probably will factor into the government’s argument."
As for Mosby's efforts to seek a pardon, Steve concluded her pre-sentencing conduct was ill-advised. "It's not so much her lack of remorse, but it's her proactive measures to undermine the credibility of the justice system by claiming that the prosecution was motivated by factors other than the law and the facts."
