Overview
(July 17, 2024, London) – Steptoe partner Thomas Innes has been appointed to the Institute for Transnational Arbitration's (ITA) Executive Committee, as a Co-Chair of its United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Task Force. Thomas will represent the ITA at the UNCITRAL Working Group II meetings, held twice per year, in Vienna and New York.
The ITA provides educational and professional activities for legal counsel, arbitrators, business executives, government officials, academics and other professionals through programs and publications that examine, critique and seek to improve the practice and study of international arbitration and provide opportunities to enhance the arbitration community.
Thomas is deputy chair of Steptoe's International Arbitration group. He advises and conducts advocacy on a wide range of commercial disputes. In particular, he has significant experience as counsel in international arbitrations, both investor-State and commercial. Thomas is ranked in both Chambers UK and The Legal 500 UK. The latter noting his "knowledge is not only theoretical, but very practical and adapted to the case and the particular client, and (very importantly) very comprehensible to the tribunals."
