Steptoe lawyers have wide-ranging experience in environmental regulatory issues related to air, land, water, and waste, and regularly assist clients in these matters. Our team brings a sophisticated approach to a broad range of client environmental issues, including under the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and similar state programs. We advise clients on significant regulatory and environmental liability issues, including challenges to proposed regulations, preparation of complex permit applications, and prosecution of appeals from adverse regulatory decisions. In addition, as initiatives arise to reform these regulations, we have the legislative and policymaking experience to assist them with legislative matters, agency rulemakings, enforcement proceedings, and compliance planning.
Steptoe also provides a nationally known regulatory litigation capability, concentrating on challenges to agency action, enforcement defense, and preemption before appellate and trial courts as well as administrative agencies. We help clients integrate regulatory, litigation, and government relations strategies to optimize results.
