Overview
(October 23, 2020, Washington, DC) — For the sixth consecutive year, Global Investigations Review has named Steptoe to its GIR 30, an independent guide to the world's best firms for international investigations. The top 30 law firms were unveiled during a virtual awards ceremony on October 22.
The GIR 30, which was launched in 2015, is part of the GIR 100, an annual guide to the world's leading cross-border investigations practices. Based on extensive research, GIR editors have selected 100 firms from around the world able to handle sophisticated cross-border government-led and internal investigations.
In an October 23 profile of Steptoe's cross-border investigations, compliance and enforcement practice, the editors state that "Steptoe's record on national security-related cases is second to none," and that the firm's track record on matters involving the FCPA is "impressive." The editors also note that Steptoe's Hong Kong office, which opened in early 2020, "has instantly become an impressive part of the firm's investigations offering."
Through decades of experience, Steptoe has earned a national reputation as a go-to firm for boards, audit committees, special committees, companies, and other institutions in need of outside counsel to handle government investigations, sensitive internal investigations, and compliance reviews. The firm's team includes former officials from a wide range of US law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Treasury Department, IRS, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and the New York County District Attorney's Office. For its preeminence in corporate criminal defense and investigations, Steptoe has been recognized by numerous legal directories and publications – including Chambers USA, The Legal 500, Law360 and The National Law Journal.
