Overview
Dan Gelwicks focuses his practice on patent litigation at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Federal District Courts, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the USPTO. Dan leverages his technical background and experience to represent companies with innovative pharmaceutical, electrical, and mechanical technologies including robotics, alternative energy, drones, medical devices, data communications, networking, semi-conductor and other circuitry manufacturing, fault detection processes, database management and organization, plastics manufacturing, and consumer product technologies.
Dan has been part of numerous Hatch-Waxman and high-tech engineering trial teams. He has experience with all phases of litigation, including examining fact and expert witnesses at trial, taking and defending fact and expert depositions, and managing teams of lawyers during all aspects of discovery and pre-trial preparation.
Apart from litigation, he has considerable experience in patent counseling and domestic and international patent prosecution and portfolio management in a variety of fields including optical sensing devices, robotics, telecommunications, power transmission, alternative energy, medical devices, consumer products, text processing in preparing podcasts and other audible versions of news stories, aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and UAV package loading and delivery processes. Dan’s counseling experience spans companies at all stages, from innovative start-ups to well-established corporations with global footprints.
Dan is well-known for being a quick-learner and frequently praised for his ability to manage the day-to-day details while understanding his client’s larger strategy.
Prior to practicing law, Dan managed and worked alongside cross-disciplinary teams that designed engineering systems and conducted corresponding field verification in the oil refining, chemical processing, and food and beverage processing industries.
