Overview
Jim Brogan represents technology and life sciences companies in high-stakes patent trials and other technology-related commercial disputes including domestic and international arbitrations. He has experience representing clients in key patent litigation venues, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas; the District of Delaware; the Eastern District of Virginia; the Northern District of Illinois; the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of California; the International Trade Commission (ITC); the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB); and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Jim represents and has represented clients ranging from startups to established corporations, including LG Display, BASF, Super Micro Computer, F45 Training, Flexicare, Holochip, Motorola Mobility, Gevo, Enfish, Innolux, Picolight, and Monolithic Power Systems.
By developing tailored strategies to respond to his client’s unique needs, Jim works to find solutions in the early stages of litigation. As one example, to avoid a lengthy and costly ITC proceeding, he secured an early, favorable summary determination for Innolux in an investigation concerning LCD panels.
Jim has been recognized by various legal guides and publications including Chambers USA, Legal 500, Managing Intellectual Property, Intellectual Property Management, and 5280 Denver Magazine for his expertise and work in intellectual property and patent litigation.
Additionally, Jim frequently speaks on topics related to patent litigation and prosecution. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law, where he teaches a patent litigation course. Also, as co-founder of the annual continuing legal education event, the Rocky Mountain Intellectual Property Institute, he has delivered presentations surrounding patent infringement risk, claim construction, and patent litigation budgeting.
