Steptoe's San Francisco office is a vibrant, rapidly growing office in the heart of downtown. We have a robust commercial litigation practice that spans contract disputes, business torts, securities and common law fraud, consumer class actions, products liability matters, and antitrust disputes. We also have particular and deep experience with energy litigation, including business interruption loss matters, power purchase agreement and other contract disputes, antitrust matters, constitutional issues and questions of federal and state preemption, and complex electrical engineering matters.
Our lawyers also represent many of the largest retailers in the world in a wide range of legal matters. The Retail & E-Commerce Group is best known for its work defending consumer class actions involving deceptive pricing, false advertising, automatic renewal laws, gift cards laws, TCPA, FACTA, California's Song-Beverly Credit Card Act (and related statutes in other states), and "Made in the USA" laws.
In the area of intellectual property, we focus on trade secrets, patent litigation, and patent prosecution. We have extensive experience litigating patent disputes in courts throughout the United States – including the US District Court for Northern California, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and at the International Trade Commission – and internationally. Our lawyers have handled cases in a broad range of industries, including the computer, automotive, defense, telecommunications, retail, consumer products, semiconductor, and medical devices industries.
Our lawyers also handle white-collar and government investigations and enforcement matters for individuals and companies, including securities fraud, wire fraud, False Claims Act cases, and tax matters.
We are deeply committed to pro bono matters and represent clients in cases involving issues of gun control, the death penalty, education, foster care, and children’s welfare. We are actively involved in our community, participating in local bar associations and community organizations.
