Letizia Busso focuses her practice on international investment and commercial arbitration, and public international law. She has experience with arbitrations arising under the rules of, among others, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Prior to joining Steptoe, Letizia has worked at leading law firms in Italy, the Netherlands and the UK.
Letizia coaches teams and arbitrates for various arbitration moot courts including the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

Representative Matters
- Acts for the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago in regard to the alleged breach of a bilateral investment treaty. Concerns a gas-to-liquids plant. We recently succeeded in obtaining one of the first security for costs orders under the new ICSID rules. NiQuan Energy LLC v The Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. ICSID arbitration. - Acts for the investors in respect of an investment dispute with the Tanzanian Government arising from alleged breaches of two bilateral investment treaties. Concerns investment in a multibillion-dollar tourism resort. Brian Thomson & Pennyroyal Limited v. The United Republic of Tanzania. ICSID arbitration. ICSID Case No. ARB/23/26.
- Acted for the investors (until April 2024) in an ongoing NAFTA Chapter Eleven arbitration involving undue political interference in the environmental approval process for an LNG liquefaction facility and related pipeline. Ruby River v. Government of Canada. ICSID arbitration. ICSID Case No. ARB/23/5.
