Overview
Shelita M. Stewart is a partner in Steptoe's Investigations, White-Collar & Compliance practice, where she advises global organizations across the full compliance lifecycle—designing and strengthening compliance functions, conducting internal investigations, defending against regulatory enforcement, and assessing legal risks. Shelita focuses on clients in technology, telecommunications, media, and healthcare.
Shelita has represented clients before the US Department of Justice, the US Federal Trade Commission, and other government agencies on matters involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI), privacy and data security, corporate misconduct, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the False Claims Act (FCA), and a range of other federal and state laws and regulations.
Prior to returning to private practice, Shelita served as a senior deputy counsel at a Fortune 50 telecommunications and media company, where she built and led global compliance and investigations programs. Shelita crafts practical advice, including providing post-investigation go-forward compliance strategies for her clients. She applies the same compliance skills and experience to her review of corporate transactions that are often the subject of litigation and enforcement.
