Overview
Lindsay Arrieta is Of Counsel in Steptoe's Investigations and White-Collar practice, based in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Her practice focuses on advising clients on anti-corruption and regulatory compliance matters, leading cross-border internal investigations, conducting compliance program reviews and assessments, and advising on all aspects of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Lindsay has represented corporate clients in enforcement matters before the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the US Department of Justice (DOJ) as well as US-based clients subject to anti-corruption inquiries from foreign regulators.
Lindsay has extensive international experience, having worked on some of the largest global anti-corruption matters settled with regulators in the US and abroad, including regulators in the UK, France, Brazil, and South Africa. Leveraging her regional expertise and language skills, she has handled multiple internal investigations in Latin America and Brazil as well as other jurisdictions. She has represented several multinational clients under monitorships following settlements with the DOJ and SEC and provided counseling on the implementation of corporate compliance programs to meet US regulatory standards. Lindsay has counseled clients subject to Deferred Prosecution Agreements (DPA) with the DOJ by conducting follow-on investigations, advising on related disclosures as well as compliance program enhancements and related reporting.
Drawing on her in-house compliance experience, Lindsay provides clients with strategic advice on the implementation and enhancement of corporate ethics and compliance programs in the areas of anti-corruption and ESG, ensuring clients meet the evolving regulatory requirements of US regulators. In this space, Lindsay frequently conducts regulatory risk assessments for corporate clients in the mining and extractives sector. She has also conducted pre- and post-mergers and acquisitions due diligence reviews as well as risk assessments for clients in the pharmaceutical, defense contracting and extractives industries.
Lindsay maintains an active pro bono practice representing clients in immigration matters before US Immigration Courts and USCIS. She also sits on the Legal Advisory Committee of the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights.
Before joining Steptoe, Lindsay was a Senior Associate in the Investigations and White-Collar Defense practice at a prominent global law firm in Washington, DC. Prior to private practice, she worked in-house at a global financial institution in New York, NY where she acquired experience in implementing corporate compliance programs and providing regulatory advice.

Representative Matters
- Led an FCPA investigation in response to an SEC subpoena for a Chile-based corporate client and represented witnesses in testimony before SEC.
- Led an internal investigation into alleged violations of Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions involving a third-party distributor in Venezuela.
- Conducted several internal investigations across countries in Central and South America, Africa, and Europe for a global software company that led to a cross-border resolution with US and South African authorities for violations of anti-corruption laws.
- Conducted anti-corruption and fraud risk assessments for several mining companies in Chile, Peru, and Spain.
- Counseled a mining company on adopting enhancements to their anti-corruption and ESG policy framework.
- Represented a French aircraft manufacturer in connection with the first coordinated global settlement among US, U.K., and French authorities and oversaw internal investigations in connection with subpoena response.
- Represented a US-publicly traded corporate client in response to an inquiry from Brazilian authorities related to allegations of anti-corruption and public procurement violations.
- Advised a Brazil-based petrochemical company on anti-corruption compliance program enhancements during a DOJ monitorship, which included a secondment to the Mexico subsidiary. Subsequently conducted a follow-on investigation involving corruption allegations implicating the Mexico subsidiary.
- Represented several multinational corporates subject to DPAs with DOJ and SEC for FCPA violations and provided compliance counseling under related monitorships.
- Represented a major defense contractor in an FCPA internal review.
- Conducted a post-acquisition anti-corruption risk assessment for a global pharmaceutical company’s purchase of consumer health business lines in Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil.
- Represented a global investment bank and financial services firm in civil litigation arising from allegations of fraud and corruption.
