Overview
On May 13, 2025, Law360 featured Steptoe’s representation of ExxonMobil affiliate, Mobil Cerro Negro Ltd., in an article titled, "Venezuela Says $1B ExxonMobil Award Can't Be Enforced." The article discusses Venezuela pressing a DC federal court not to issue a default ruling enforcing a nearly $1 billion arbitral award to three Exxon Mobil Corp. affiliates, arguing that its failure to appear was "not willful." Venezuela told the court that internal political turmoil has made it difficult to lodge appearances not just in this case, but also in more than 90 other pending cases alleging wrongdoing by the Venezuelan government.
The Steptoe team representing Mobil Cerro Negro includes partners Steven Davidson, Michael Baratz, and Molly Bruder Fox, of counsel Joseph Sanderson, and associate Emma Marshak.
