Overview
(June 27, 2025, Washington, DC) – Steptoe LLP is proud to be recognized with the 2025 TrustLaw Collaboration Award for its pro bono work with Access Now on a landmark regional analysis of artificial intelligence (AI) regulation in Latin America.
Steptoe attorneys Elizabeth Goodwin and Andrew Golodny contributed US legal analysis to a comparative report that examined AI laws, policies, and strategies across eight Latin American countries. The project, involving seven leading law firms, identified regulatory patterns, gaps, and priorities to help shape human rights-based AI frameworks tailored to the region's unique needs.
The report is already influencing draft legislation in Peru and is being used by policymakers, universities, and civil society across Latin America to promote coherent, rights-respecting AI governance.
The TrustLaw Collaboration Award celebrates outstanding partnerships between legal teams and civil society organizations. TrustLaw, the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono network, connects NGOs and social enterprises with top law firms to deliver high-impact legal support.
