Northwestern University's Pritzker School of Law is bringing to you 'Substantial Authorities: The Tax Podcast,' a series of conversations with distinguished tax figures on matters relating to tax administration, tax controversy, and tax litigation. The video podcast is hosted by Steptoe tax partner Matt Frank.
Episode 1
The first interview features an in-depth conversation with Albert G. Lauber, a senior judge on the US Tax Court. Lauber was appointed to the court by former President Obama and was sworn in on January 31, 2013 for a term ending in 2028. He assumed senior status on January 1, 2020. Lauber has been recognized as one of the most productive judges on the Tax Court, and some of his more notable opinions include The Coca-Cola Company v. Commissioner (2020), Whirlpool Financial Corp. v. Commissioner (2020), and Amazon.com, Inc. v. Commissioner (2017).

This episode features an in-depth conversation with Al Meghji, a partner at the Toronto-based law firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, who is widely recognized as the top tax litigator in Canada. Some of his more notable cases at the Canadian Supreme Court include Shell Canada (1999), Canada Trustco (2005), and GlaxoSmithKline (2012).
