Overview
On June 30, 2022, the United States Supreme Court granted certiorari in the "Buffalo Billion" cases, in which Steptoe represents Alain Kaloyeros. The Court will decide whether the "right to control" theory of wire fraud, which has been embraced in some parts of the country but not others, is an invalid expansion of federal criminal law. Steptoe attorneys Michael Miller, Reid Weingarten, Bruce Bishop and Michael Scavelli have represented Dr. Kaloyeros at every stage of this case, including the trial in the Southern District of New York, appeals through the Second Circuit and the petition for certiorari filed with the Supreme Court.
