Gwendolyn Prothro is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where she is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department.
Civil Litigation
Ms. Prothro maintains a multi-faceted commercial practice. She works with clients across a spectrum of industries, from financial services and insurance, to manufacturing.
Ms. Prothro has litigated class actions and complex cases in federal and state courts around the country, including consumer fraud, RICO, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, accounting malpractice, and contract disputes. She has also participated in several coverage disputes, litigating claims under fidelity, surety, and financial institution bonds.
Products Liability
Ms. Prothro works on a wide range of product liability matters on behalf of manufacturers, importers, and distributors of consumer products. She has represented clients before the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), filing Section 15 reports, defending against preliminary hazard determinations, negotiating voluntary corrective action plans, and implementing recall programs. She has also counseled clients on the development of product safety programs, monitored litigation, and spoken to groups on liability avoidance issues.
