Please join us on Wednesday, November 19, for a complimentary webinar focused on Texas's increased investigations of food manufacturers and food products.
This session will focus on the Texas Attorney General’s increased scrutiny of and investigations into food manufacturers and food products. In the wake of the "Make America Healthy Again" (MAHA) movement, the State of Texas has increased its oversight of food manufacturers, both through investigations brought by the Texas Attorney General and recently passed legislation. This year, the Texas Attorney General has investigated:
- Major baby food manufacturers for allegedly selling products with dangerously high levels of heavy metals.
- Consumer brands for allegedly illegally marketing fluoride toothpaste to children.
- Food manufacturers for their use of petroleum-based artificial dyes, leading to agreements between the Texas Attorney General and various companies to remove petroleum-based artificial dyes from their products in the coming months and years.
Similarly, in the summer of 2025, the Texas legislature passed Texas Senate Bill 25, the "Make Texas Healthy Again Act," which purports to require food products to include warning labels for specific ingredients designated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This panel will include attorneys and scientists from Steptoe’s Chemicals and Life Sciences (CLS) practice group, as well as lawyers from Steptoe’s Houston office with experience guiding clients through investigations and enforcement actions brought by the Texas Attorney General.
