Overview
Alex Ahkar focuses his legal practice on energy and infrastructure project finance. He represents financial institutions and lenders engaged in developing, financing, building, operating, selling, and acquiring complex, capital-intensive infrastructure projects, especially in the renewable energy generation, battery storage, and electric transmission sectors. He also advises electric utilities on negotiating operating service agreements. In addition to his project finance work, Alex has supported clients in a range of transactional matters, including financing and acquisition transactions in the food manufacturing, online travel, and education sectors.
Prior to joining the firm, Alex advised on corporate M&A, restructuring, sanctions, and international arbitration matters involving the US and Myanmar, as well as broader Southeast Asia.
Alex graduated from Georgetown University Law Center as a Fulbright Scholar.
Alex maintains an active pro bono practice, representing victims of human trafficking and domestic abuse on immigration and family reunification matters, as well as serving as counsel in a disability discrimination lawsuit involving special education services.

Representative Matters
- Represented the arranger, agents, issuing bank, and lender in connection with an approximately $290 million build-transfer project financing of a 150 MW solar project in Terry County, Texas.
- Represented the arrangers, Green loan coordinators, agents, lenders and issuing banks in connection with syndicated, secured corporate credit facilities totaling $919 million for the owner of one of the largest fleets of non-regulated renewable energy assets in the United States.
- Represented the lenders, arrangers, agents, issuing banks and sustainability coordinator on a $2.5 billion, secured, sustainability-linked working capital credit facility for a global renewable energy sponsor.
- Represented an online travel search engine in an acquisition of a technology company in the online travel space.
- Representing the sole arranger, administrative and collateral agent and an issuing bank in connection with the establishment, financial closing and subsequent amendments of a syndicated, secured letter of credit facility worth up to US$195 million in favor of a global integrated gas-to-power infrastructure company to support its LNG liquefaction, supply and shipping businesses, and its downstream facilities and logistics assets, in the US, and 11 other jurisdictions including Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Ireland and the UK.
- Represented the arrangers, agents, issuing bank, and green loan coordinators in connection with a $510 million Green Loan Principles-aligned build-transfer project financing and payoff of a 300 MW solar project in Missouri.
- Represented the arrangers, agents, issuing bank, and green loan coordinators in connection with a $520 million Green Loan Principles-aligned build-transfer project financing of a 265 MW wind farm in Texas.
- Represented the arrangers, agents, issuing banks, and green loan coordinators in connection with a $500 million Green Loan Principles-aligned build-transfer project financing of a 200 MW wind farm in Illinois.
